Faith & Spirituality Statement

Sex Ed for You

  • Believes that an individual can be sexually informed without abandoning their faith or spirituality.

  • Supports and protects individuals who have chosen to walk away from a religious environment that caused sexual dysfunction or harm.

  • Validates the positive aspects of faith while identifying sex-negative beliefs in order to help clients overcome religiosity based sexual dysfunction. (Dale & Keller, 2019)

  • Understands the difference between legalism and spiritual discernment.

  • Rejects the church’s history of anti-intellectualism and anti-science ideology that leads to willfully withholding important health information through abstinence-only education.

  • Helps clients distinguish between the sustenance they draw from their faith and the harmful beliefs contributing to their sexual issues. (Dale & Keller, 2019)

  • Affirms that an individual’s faith or spirituality can play a part in their sexual healing, if they so choose.

  • Does not judge or belittle an individual’s faith or spirituality.

  • Approaches sexuality education from an open and welcoming place where all people can learn to convey their bodily desires, set appropriate boundaries, and respect the boundaries of others.
