Positionality Statement
In the spirit of self-reflexivity, I acknowledge my standpoint as an able-bodied, White, U.S.-born, cis-gendered, heterosexual, middle-class woman with some college-level-education, and a Certification in HOLISTIC SEXUALITY EDUCATION.
As a divorced and now remarried woman in her late thirties, who was raised in an Evangelical Christian household in Central Virginia, I acknowledge that my experiences influence all of my work to some extent.
While the majority of my work focuses on the human right to pleasure within sexual relationships, this does not mean I devalue relationship structures that choose not to be sexual.
While I am vocal about the harm I endured within Evangelical Christianity and Purity Cultures, it does not mean that I disrespect an individual’s choice to practice their faith or refrain from partnered intercourse until marriage.
While I am in a heterosexual relationship, it does not mean I devalue other types of relationship structures. In fact, I celebrate our freedom to explore the fluidity of our genders, orientations, and the many facets of companionship.
I believe it is helpful to understand our positionality and, therefore, our lens through which we see the world. I have expertise in the fields of Sexual Health, Maternal Health, Communications, Musical Theatre, Intellectual Property, and Non-Profit Management.
