December '23 Journal Prompts
Welcome, December. As the animals begin to hibernate, I encourage us all to consider how a similar season of wintering might benefit us.
Many animals have a season of hibernation. Would a similar time of hiding benefit you? why?
David Whyte says that, "hiding is underestimated." Do you agree?
When have you hidden before? What were you becoming?
What images from the poem stick out as helpful word pictures of things that need seasons of hiding? Why? (If none stick out, what can you describe?)
Have you ever come out of hiding too early? Have you ever brought an idea out of incubation too early? What was the result?
Have you ever been "named," "tracked," or “controlled" before you were ready?
What does the line, "hiding is a bid for independence" mean to you?
In this season of your life, would a season of hiding benefit you? Why?
What would you be nurturing/protecting in your precious hibernation cave?
If you allowed yourself a season of hiding this December, who would you love to emerge as? What does she look like, feel like, sound like? How is she different from you now?
